The FOX network has announced upcoming pilots, and with the news comes casting details. First up is a drama, called Supreme Courtships, starring Shane West. West can currently be seen on E.R. and was a cast member of ABC’s Once and Again. Of course, no word on whether or not West will stay on E.R. With a name like Supreme Courtships, you can kind of guess the subject matter—Supreme Court clerks and their relationships.
FOX also announced a new comedy, called The Rules of Starting Over, with Craig Bierko and Rashida Jones. The comedy will look at the lives of friends who are jumping back into dating following their divorces. Jones is currently on The Office, and there has been a lot of speculation about how long her role as Jim’s girlfriend will continue. Perhaps her signing on to a new pilot is good news for Pam and Jim fans?

Ed Helms Becomes a Regular on ‘The Office’
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Daily Show, The, The Office,
For those of you, like myself, who may have thought that Ed Helms’ character on The Office was on his way out, think again. It would seem that, after he annoyed even Michael Scott (Steve Carell), that the end was near. Helms has done a particularly fine job as the suck-up Andy Bernard, that it makes you feel downright embarrassed for the guy. His status on the show has just been bumped to a regular cast member. Both Helms and Rashida Jones (Karen) joined The Office this season. Karen, who moved to the Scranton branch mainly to follow Jim, will likely have some tougher times ahead now that Jim has admitted he has feelings for Pam. Rashida Jones is still just a recurring character, so we’ll have to see if she decides to move back to Stamford.
Helms worked with Steve Carell on The Daily Show and will soon appear on screen with Carell in Evan Almighty.

The 2007 Golden Globe Awards

Ladies and Gents – I can’t tell you how excited I am about the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards tonight!! It’s been a whole five months since I’ve done minute-by-minute coverage of an awards show and I’ve been dying to unload. (And yes—I am ignoring the fact that the People’s Choice Awards even exist).
The Academy Awards may get the largest viewing audience, but the Golden Globes telecast is the only one I really love to watch. A cross between the insignificant People’s Choice and the stuffy Oscars, this show mixes credibility with spontaneous fun. Yes—the Miss Golden Globe tradition is beyond lame. And yes—separating Dramas from Musicals/Comedies is something I will never understand. But knowing that I may see a star slam down a drink after bitterly losing is exciting defined.
As for who I think should win? Well, Jennifer Hudson is an absolute given. (Though Rinko Kikuchi from Babel would be a nice surprise). And it would be great to see Forest Whitaker beat out both Leo nominations. But no matter what happens, I’m ready for the ride. So bring it on!

30 Rock Gets a Full Season Order
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Grey’s Anatomy, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, The Office, Ratings, Renewals,
OK, I can stop gushing about 30 Rock, NBC’s comedic behind-the-scenes look at a sketch show. NBC has finally given it the full season order. This comes the day after a colossal breakthrough in ratings, having moved to Thursday nights. 30 Rock now is the fourth show in a tight lineup on NBC—My Name is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, and 30 Rock provide the return of that “Must See” feeling. And must see they did. 30 Rock, which has not been much of a ratings winner, saw a dramatic 25% increase in viewers (6.6 million viewers overall) when it followed the aforementioned block of shows. Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment, said, “In 30 Rock, Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels, along with stars Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan, have the goods with this excellent comedy. We look forward to future episodes of this bright new show, which is right on-brand for our Thursday-night comedy block.” I know a lot of you out there watch Grey’s Anatomy, but the NBC Thursday night schedule provides a solid two hours of comedy gold.

30 Rock Gets Additional Scripts Ordered
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, The Office, Ratings,
Great news, 30 Rock fans! NBC has ordered additional scripts of the show, so here’s hoping we’ll get to see a little more of that Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey magic. The recent move to Thursday nights was not too eventful, ratings-wise, so the fate of this little comedy is still up in the air. Hey, it’s up against Grey’s Anatomy—but I’m telling you, this show is funny. It’s got the goods. What does Grey‘s have anyway? OK, believe it or not, I’m one of the few people that doesn’t watch Grey‘s. And come this Thursday, I will be completely devoted to NBC’s Thursday night block of comedy: My Name is Earl, The Office, Scrubs and 30 Rock. The return of Must-See TV? Well, I know I’ll be there!

Blue Man Group to Appear on Scrubs
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Grey’s Anatomy, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, The Office,
First, let me just say that I can barely contain myself about the return of Scrubs. It’s been way too long of a wait for diehard fans, but we have been filling the void with the excellent re-runs on Comedy Central. This show is just too good, and with rumors that this may be its final season, we need to hang on to every excellent little morsel that this show delivers. Case in point, TV Squad is reporting that Blue Man Group will make a special appearance on the season premiere—which airs November 30th at 9:00 p.m. In the episode, J.D. (Zach Braff) will join the blue percussion dudes on stage at The Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino. This does bring to mind the great gag that Arrested Development had with Tobias (David Cross) trying to become a member of the group. Tune in—November 30th is going to be a great night—The Office, My Name is Earl, Scrubs and 30 Rock! Of course, there’s that little show, Grey’s Anatomy, that’s likely to pull a viewer or two away from Scrubs...

Ricky Gervais Episode of The Office Coming Soon
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, BBC, NBC, Extras, The Office,
The November 30th episode of The Office will be a very special episode. Not ‘very special’ in the typical sense of sitcoms (you know, where someone has an eating disorder or discovers their best friend has a drug problem). No, this is special for fans of the original British version of The Office. The November 30th show will be written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the originators of the series. This is the first episode of the American version that the pair has written. In the episode, Steve Carell’s character (Michael) discovers that one of the new employees has a prison record. For those who were curious if the character of Andy from the Stamford office would continue on the series (played by Ed Helms), fear not—in this episode Andy will seek advice from Jim (John Krasinski) on how to pursue Pam (Jenna Fischer). Knowing Gervais and Merchant’s work on both The Office and Extras, the November 30th episode should be nothing short of genius.

The Office: Producer’s Cut
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office, Internet,
This week, fans of The Office will get an extra treat online—a “producer’s cut” of the episode airing on November 9th. This is the first time that this type of special feature has been available online. With additional scenes and footage that won’t air on the Thursday broadcast, viewers can get a little somethin’ somethin’ that is usually reserved only for DVD extra features. The “web-exclusive event” will be available to viewers following the 8:30 airing of The Office, so log on to NBC.com at 9:00 p.m. Executive vice president NBC digital entertainment and new media, Vivi Zigler, said of the event: “This is a first-of-its-kind and a real bonus for fans of The Office. It’s also a natural for this show which has continually pushed the envelope in the digital landscape. We’re seeing an incredible audience reaction to the evolving digital extensions of our programming and anticipate this being one of their favorites.”
If you haven’t seen promos for this week’s show—Jan (Melora Hardin) informs Michael (Steve Carell) that his branch of Dunder Mifflin (the Scranton office) will be shutting down. You can bet that Michael will do his best to keep staff morale going, which always leads to the best Michael moments

Must See TV is Back!
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, The Office,
Remember when Thursday nights were ‘Must See TV’ on NBC? Well, Thursday nights are about to get a great lineup again. Of course, this is just in my opinion, but I’m sure plenty will agree. First, Scrubs is coming back on November 30th! The long-awaited return is finally just around the corner, and here’s hoping that the 9 p.m. slot on the Thursday night lineup will bring more viewers to this great comedy. Second, 30 Rock, the new Tina Fey/Alec Baldwin sitcom will move to Thursdays at 9:30. This little comedy has got potential and Thursday may give it more exposure. My Name is Earl and The Office will continue at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Oh my god, settle in to your comfy chair for the best night of TV! Kevin Reilly, President of NBC Entertainment, said of the news, “We are excited about the prospect of two-hours of top-notch comedy on Thursday nights, which includes the return of Scrubs. We will stay on-brand with the best comedy block on television, which will position us for the future on the night.” Look for it all on November 30th (and of course, ER is still hanging in the Thursday 10 p.m. spot).
